Smoothies

the past three days my flatmate and I have been doing a juice/smoothie cleanse. Mostly successful. But boy, not eating real foods is a serious challenge. There is just so much temptation out there, and when it comes to food, I am seriously weak willed.

We started every morning off with a fresh ginger tea, then had a breakfast, lunch, afternoon, and evening smoothie. Although I don't think I'll be able to do a full-on cleanse for a while, many of the smoothies would be a great start to the day, or yummy snack. Here are some of the ones I definitely want to have again:

Power Breakfast Smoothie

2 servings

ingredients
1 ripe mango
40g rolled spelt flakes ("Dinkelflocken")
100g plain soy yogurt
1 tbs Psyllium seed husks (Flohsamenschalen)

instructions
add peeled and chopped mango, the spelt flakes, yogurt and seed husks to blender, add a few ice cubes. blend on highest setting for about 3 minutes, or until completely smooth. if too thick, add some water.



Mango Lassi

 2 servings

ingredients
1 ripe mango
1 lime
100g soy yogurt

instructions
peel and chop mango. add to mixer with zest and juice of 1 lime, a handful of ice cubes  and the yogurt. blend on high until smooth. 



Strawberry Tofu Smoothie

2 servings

ingredients
200g silken tofu
200g fresh strawberries
2 oranges
1 lemon
2 tbsp sunflower seeds 

instructions
wash strawberries. trim off greens and add to blender with the tofu, juice of the oranges and lemons, and the sunflower seeds. add a handful of ice. blend until smooth. 

Avocado Smoothie

2 servings

ingredients
1 ripe Avocado
1 banana
2 oranges

instructions
Add avocado flesh, peeled banana and juice of 2 oranges to blender with a handful of ice. blend until smooth. 



Pink Smoothie

2 servings

ingredients
1 pomegranate
1 grapefruit
1 pear

instructions
remove seeds from pomegranate and add to blender.  Remove peel and white pith from grapefruit. Working over a medium bowl, cut between membranes to release grapefruit segments. remove seeds from pear, place fruit in blender. add ice cubes. blend until smooth.
